Warmed by sun and bathed by rain
The daffodils are fooled
They think that spring has come again
But winter still holds rule.
Green shoots now risen from the earth
Citron bulbs peek out
They seeking warmth may find it's dearth
And tiny heads shall pout.
They lie now in a patch of sun
And all seems well and good
But clouds will come and sunshine run
And cold re-grip the wood.
Cannot retreat below the ground
Fated they are to stay
Oh sit, enjoy the blossoms proud
Though they last but a day.
