Thursday
Did you ever have one of those days?
Woke up and remembered Marilyn and I had a dr. appointment. She was already off to work. Called her. She came back. In the meantime, I got dressed and out to the car as she pulled back in the driveway. Fired up the car and started to back out. Realized it might be Thursday. Marilyn checked her calendar. Appointment was yesterday. Which we obviously missed. Called dr. office and resked appointment. Much muttering. Marilyn off to work.
The day improved dramatically with the arrival of Pooh shortly thereafter.
Okay. The big news -- Pooh (at 19 months) is smarter than the average adult monkey. Actually.
See, if you want to catch a monkey you can do it by making it trap itself. Cut a hole in a gourd that a monkey can just squeeze it's hand into. Then affix the gourd so that it can't be taken away and put some monkey treats inside. A monkey will reach in for the treats and grab them, but it can't pull it's hand out when it's clutching something (hole too small). The monkey is not smart enough to let go of the treats to free itself.
Pooh.
Today I put a spoon from her play tea set into the teapot, which she can barely squeeze her hand into. She reached in for the spoon, immediately realized she couldn't get her hand out while holding the spoon, and let go and slowly and carefully withdrew her hand.
Not only smarter than the average bear, smarter than the average monkey.
And I don't remember when it was that she started pretending, but it was some time ago. Now we have pretend tea, and she often pretends to be baby godzilla and attacks me. Among other things. Naturally I think she's brilliant -- but then, she IS!
We watched Ice Age again -- and again. She loves it. I think she identifies with the baby. But she giggles every time the sloth steps in the giant turtle's droppings. And you never actually see the droppings.
She took only a 1-hour nap today, so when mommy came grandpa was ready. Once she's ready to go -- and it has to be her idea -- Pooh will start waving bye-bye to me. She's happy to come in the morning, and she's ready to leave in the evening. A perfect day.
Following which I crashed and watched Wasabi. I'm a big Jean Reno fan, and that is one funny movie. I'm also a big fan of Luc Besson (the director), so there you go.
Marilyn left work while it was still daylight! I didn't know if she could find her way home while the sun was up, but fortunately it set before she got here, so she made it all right. She watched the end of Wasabi with me and we're off to bed.
